Overview
MMI’s first trip to this region was in 2005. The regional project director quickly developed strong relationships with community leaders and currently the Amazon Project teams works in a 200KM radius around Leticia, Colombia. This location is an ideal location to serve patients from three different countries. Each day our teams travel down the river and set up clinics in local rural villages. Although it is not physically demanding, MMI Amazon is considered an extreme project due to basic lodging accommodations and elevated exposure to certain diseases. But don’t be too concerned– we know what to expect as well as monitor how their health is doing. If you are concerned about age limit, we had Paul Loofs, who is 81 years old, come on our first pioneer trip and he enjoyed it.
