Overview
The Dominican Republic is located in the Caribbean region on the island of Hispaniola. Hispaniola is divided into 2 sovereign states, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The Dominican Republic has been at the heart of MMI’s work since the founding of our ministry 40 years ago. Our first project ever was here in Puerto Plata. MMI’s first health Clinic was established in Santo Domingo circa 1985. Through our one and two week projects many have been trained –carrying our work to many of the other countries where MMI is now located today. Graduates from the ophthalmology Residency program have returned to their countries where many continue to serve the poor both with MMI Health Clinics around the globe. Our vision for the future is that the work will not only continue to serve the poor in the DR, but also serve as a bridge for volunteers and leaders to ultimately serve those in need in poorer and needier countries.
Here’s some things you may need to know:

Immunization Requirements:
No immunizations are required to enter the Dominican Republic. All routine immunizations should be up to date. Please check with your local health department, a travel physician or clinic or the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to see if they recommend anything for your trip.

All minors traveling need to leave with the same parent or guardian that they came with.
