Currently Recruiting for Primary, Preventative and Dental Care Participants
Overview
In the early 1970’s the 3rd Vice President of Honduras, Napolean Alcerro, secured an official invitation to bring a MMI Medical Brigade to the country. Dr. Alcerro, a devout Christian, had a vision to help the poor and provide a source for basic medical care to his country. After many years of sending Medical Brigades to the country, MMI constructed a Health Center in 2002 on the outskirts of San Pedro Sula, in the town of El Progresso. This Center now provides year around care, while also serving as a hub for medical operations throughout Honduras.
The focus of MMI is to build medical capacity and increase the opportunity for care to the poor of Honduras. Each Project Team is building upon the work of previous teams and is also a support component of the long term strategies of our Health Centers. We are not seeking to just go do good work and then leave, but to continue to build a medical foundation for the poor of the country. We have local staff in every country we serve that provide the necessary assessment, planning, execution, and follow-up care necessary for the patients.
Another key component of our work is to come alongside medical personnel in the country, and in some cases actually provide them additional training to increase their skill for service to their people. We can’t just increase the skill of the doctors, but also seek to train the medical support and administrative staff so that when a MMI trained physician returns after 3-5 years of Residency Training, the team to help her/him to use their new skills is in place.
We have both medical and non-medical roles with all of our Programmatic Services in Honduras and opportunities for 1 week, 2 week, 1 year, and in some cases longer term roles are available. You can be a component of bringing hope to the less fortunate in Honduras.
