Where We Work: Information About Ghana

mission project ghana

 medical mission trip to ghana

MMI’s work in Ghana stretches back several decades. MMI has taken teams to Ghana on an annual basis, many under the leadership of Dr. Bob Schoffstall and his wife Peggy until they retired in 2006.

Eight years ago MMI began to support the efforts of Mr. Kofi Ghartey, and his program “Sight for Africa”. Mr. Ghartey, an optician living in Canada for 30 years, returned to his native Ghana with a vision to serve his people. A full eye clinic was developed in Accra, Ghana’s capital, and it is now an MMI Health Center.

MMI’s current national director is Collins Antwi. Mr. Antwi, who also works at the “Sight for Africa” clinic, first served on an MMI eye project in Obwasi in 2007 as an interpreter. He was quickly promoted to his current leadership role. He has not only led teams in Ghana but has helped train MMI local staff in Ethiopia.

As we look ahead, our aim is to add new one and two week projects in different parts of the country as well as strengthen the work at our permanent center.
