MMI’s first project in the Philippines was in March, 1985 to the predominantly Muslim island of Jolo in the SW corner of the country. Primary care and dental care have been provided to the poor in this region since our very first project. In 2010, MMI held the first vision care project. The Medical Director, Pete Obregon, is a native of Ilolio City in the Philippines. Dr. Allan Melicor, MMI Project Director, is a native of Mallaybalay, also located in this region.
Our vision for the future is that the Philippines will continue to develop as a hub of MMI activity in Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Additionally, we continue to explore development of a full service Health Clinic and multiple residencies in the country.
The climate is tropical marine; northeast monsoon (November to April); southwest monsoon (May to October).
